Why this is a question at all
In many law firms, medical practices and public authorities, workstations are not allowed to open outbound connections. That is policy, not caution.
Software that has to call home to unlock itself is ruled out on that basis — often before anyone assesses whether it is any good.
Cortility does not need that connection. Neither in operation nor for activation.
How activation works
Settings → License. The machine's device identifier is shown there with a copy button next to it. No connection required.
By any route — email from another workstation, phone, printout. It is a plain character string.
You receive a licence file issued for exactly that machine. Paste it or drop it in place, done.
What is checked — and what is not
The licence file carries a digital signature and the target machine's identifier. Cortility verifies both at startup, entirely on the device.
There is no back channel: no activation server, no recurring re-check, no expiry date that eventually forces a connection after all.
The licence is valid for exactly the machine it was issued for. On any other device it will not work.
Verifiable with any network monitor: activation produces no outbound traffic.
For multiple workstations
The process is the same, once per machine. Identifiers can be collected in bulk and the licence files returned in bulk.
From around ten workstations it is worth agreeing the process beforehand. Talk to us before you start.
What else to plan for
Speech recognition and translation need model files, normally downloaded on first start. If that is not possible in your network, we agree how to supply them beforehand.
The app would normally fetch updates itself. Without a connection you receive the installer package directly from us.
No content is transmitted to us during use — no speech, no text, no documents. We therefore do not act as a processor of your data.

Frequently asked questions
Does Cortility need an internet connection during normal use?
No. Speech recognition, translation and text recognition all run entirely on the machine.
Does the licence have to be re-checked periodically?
No. Verification happens on the device. There is no expiry date that forces a connection.
What exactly is the device identifier?
A character string computed from hardware characteristics of the machine. It contains no personal data and allows no conclusions about users or content.
Can a licence file be used on a different machine?
No. It is bound to the target machine's identifier and is rejected on any other device.
What happens when a machine is replaced?
Send us the new device's identifier. We reissue the licence for it.
How do the speech models get into an isolated network?
Normally the app downloads them on first start. Where that is not possible, we agree how to supply them beforehand.
Is a data processing agreement required?
Since no content is transmitted to us during use, we do not process personal data on your behalf. For a final assessment, please get in touch.
